What is Amla?
Amla, or Indian Gooseberry (Emblica officinalis), is considered the most important single herb in Ayurvedic medicine. It appears in over 50% of all Ayurvedic formulations. The reason is simple — its extraordinary Vitamin C content and its unique tannins that make the vitamin stable even when heated.
35x More Vitamin C Than Oranges
A single fresh Amla contains 600–700mg of Vitamin C — equivalent to 35 oranges. What makes Amla special is that unlike synthetic Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), Amla's Vitamin C is bound to tannins that prevent oxidation, making it bioavailable even in cooked or dried form.
Rasayana — The Ayurvedic Rejuvenator
In Ayurveda, Amla is classified as a Rasayana — a rejuvenating herb that promotes longevity and vitality. Daily consumption is believed to slow cellular ageing by reducing oxidative stress and improving mitochondrial function. Modern research on its effects on telomere length is ongoing.
Liver Protection
Amla contains Phyllemblin and Pedunculagin — compounds that protect liver cells from chemical and alcohol-induced damage. This is one reason we include it in our Detox Cleanse — it actively supports the liver's natural detoxification processes.
